A large high-rise apartment building (twin 28 story towers) achieved significant energy usage reduction by replacing halogen lighting in common areas with LED's.

Eastgate replaced 320 x 35-watt halogen down lights with 10-watt LG LED recessed lights across the common area foyers.

This will give them annual savings of more than 65,000 kWh and $8,000.

The installation of the LEDs was a relatively simple affair, and was as quick as removing the old lights and exchanging them for new LED lamps.

Annual Consumption (kWh)

1 x Halogen bulb

30,576 kWh

1 x LED lamp

8,736 kWh

Previous Halogen lighting

97,843.20 kWh

New LEDs

27,955.20 kWh

Annual savings

69,888.00 kWh

Eastgate will also save on maintenance costs. The original halogens had a lifespan of just 2,000 hours, whereas a 50,000-hour life is expected with the LEDs.
